About

I grew up in Indianapolis and could hear the race cars on the track from my home about five miles away. My first memory of the Indy 500 was in 1955. My parents had taken my brother to the race and, being younger, I stayed with my grandparents and we listened to the race on the radio. When my parents returned, I was dissolved in tears. My favorite race driver, Billy Vukovich, died in the race.

My first book is about Jim Allison, my great-great uncle. It seems like I have known about him forever. On the rare occasions when we passed the Allison Engineering or Allison Transmission division of General Motors, my mother would always point out that Uncle Jim founded the company.

Today, I have written five books related to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis automobile industry. I write a blog weekly with the exception of Christmas week. They arrive by email on Wednesday mornings.
